Head shot of Shannon Gourley

Academic Appointment

  • Training Faculty, Training Program in the Neurobiology of Drug Abuse at Emory, Emory School of Medicine
  • Training Faculty, Emory Graduate Program in Neuroscience
  • Research Faculty, Emory National Primate Research Center
  • Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Emory School of Medicine

Education

Degrees

  • PhD from Yale University
  • BS from Tufts University
  • MA from New York University

Research

Focus

  • We study stress hormone and psychostimulant dynamics, particularly in adolscent populations. We utilize murine models of depression and addiction, appetitive conditioning, confocal microscopy, viral-mediated gene silencing, and pharmacological strategies to better understand how adolescence, cytoskeletal dynamics, vulnerability genes, and behavioral traits impact long-term behavioral outcomes, complex decision-making, and disease vulnerability.
