Overview

Dr Sunil Badve is the Vice Chair, and Director of the Pathology Cancer Program at Emory University. He is a surgical pathologist and a translational researcher in breast cancer for over 20 years. He has been recognized by the Scholar Award from Susan G Komen for the Cure (2010-2018 and Current 2022-2025) as Top Doctor and BEST Doctor for the last several years. He has received the AACR Team Sciences Award (2020) as a member of the TCGA Team. He has served on several committees including the (NCI) Breast Oncology Local Disease, the ECOG Breast Committees, the AJCC (8th edition) and WHO for breast and thymic cancers. He currently serves on the NCI Breast Cancer Steering Committee, and have served on the Breast Cancer Correlative Sciences Committee, and the ASCO-CAP committee to develop guidelines for hormone receptor testing. He is the study Chair for several ECOG-ACRIN clinical trials including COMPASS-HER2pCR, COMET, E-1201 clinical trials and for 2 HCRN triple negative breast cancer clinical trials (BRE-146 and BRE-158)
Dr Badves research in Breast Cancer and Thymic Cancer has resulted in over 300 manuscripts in journals including NEJM, JCO, JNCI, Lancet Oncol and JAMA Oncol in addition to Pathology Journals. He is the Deputy Editor for NPJ Breast Cancer, Associate Editor for JNCI, and Clinical Breast Cancer. He has edited 2 books entitled Molecular Pathology of Breast Cancer and Predictive Biomarkers. He has several patents including ones for the development of gene signature for the prognostication of thymic cancer, breast cancer and colon cancer. Pioneering work from his group has led to defining of cutoffs for ASCO-CAP hormone receptor guidelines, recognition of the role of stromal tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) in breast cancer, gene signature for DCIS (Oncotype DCIS Score) and the use of innovative spatial multiplex immunofluorescence-based CellDive technology for the diagnosis and classification of intraductal breast lesions. His research is supported by NCI R01, Susan G Komen Leadership award in addition to other funds.
