Head shot of Robert Gaynes

Overview

Dr. Gaynes is a Professor at Emory with a dual appointment in the School of Public Health (Department of Epidemiology) and the School of Medicine (Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases). He is also Chair of the Infection Control Committee, the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee, and Attending Infectious Disease Physician at the Atlanta Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC). His current research focus includes using the latest technology in the computerized patient record system and clinical decision support to optimize antimicrobial use and decrease nosocomial infections at Atlanta VAMC.

Academic Appointment

  • Distinguished Physician, Emory University School of Medicine
  • Professor, Department of Medicine, Emory University School of Medicine
  • Joint Professor, School of Public Health, Emory University School of Public Health

Education

Degrees

  • MD from University of Chicago
  • BS from University of Illinois

Research

Focus

  • My research involves: 1) using the latest technology in the computerized patient record system and clinical decision support, to optimize antimicrobial use, reduce nosocomial infections and antimicrobial resistance in Atlanta VAMC; and 2) developing prevention strategies to reduce nosocomial infections and antimicrobial resistance in acute or chronic health-care settings.
