Overview
Dr. Rebecca Neustein is a fellowship-trained and board-certified glaucoma specialist and cataract surgeon. A native of the Southeast, Dr. Neustein was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina, and completed the majority of her post-graduate training in Atlanta. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania, where she met her husband, and she completed her medical degree at the Emory University School of Medicine, where she was elected to and served as president of the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society Emory chapter. Dr. Neustein stayed on at Emory for her internship and ophthalmology residency training, during which time she was actively involved in clinical research investigating clinical and surgical approaches to glaucoma treatment. She went on to complete a glaucoma fellowship at the world-renowned Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia.
Dr. Neustein is passionate about providing individualized and compassionate care to patients affected by glaucoma and cataracts. Her areas of clinical interest include medical and surgical management of adult and pediatric glaucoma, laser treatment of glaucoma, complex cataract surgery, minimally-invasive glaucoma surgery, classical glaucoma filtration surgeries, and angle-based glaucoma surgery. She is particularly interested in ophthalmic education for medical students, residents, and fellows, as well as in patient advocacy and improving patient access to ophthalmology care. As an active clinical researcher, Dr. Neustein has presented her work at the American Glaucoma Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus annual meetings. She has served as an instructor at the American Academy of Ophthalmology's cataract surgery wet lab course and at American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgeons cataract and advanced anterior segment surgery courses, and will continue to teach cataract and glaucoma surgery to Emory ophthalmology residents and glaucoma fellows in her role as teaching faculty at Emory and at Grady Memorial Hospital. She serves as the Associate Residency Program Director for Emory's ophthalmology residency program. Outside of work, Dr. Neustein enjoys spending time with her husband (an Emory-trained orthopedic hand surgeon) and their three young children.
Dr. Neustein is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a member of the American Glaucoma Society, the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Neustein sees patients at the Emory Clifton Road and Emory St. Joseph's clinic locations, as well as at Grady Memorial Hospital.
