Overview
Dr. Suchdev is a physician-epidemiologist specializing in global health, with a primary focus on maternal and child nutrition and health equity. Fluent in Spanish, he brings over 20 years of experience in public health research, global health education, pediatric clinical care, and program management. He is a Professor of Pediatrics and Global Health at Emory University and a Pediatric Hospitalist at Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta. From 2022 to 2025, he served as the lead epidemiologist for the CDC Central America office in Guatemala, where he addressed critical public health challenges affecting vulnerable populations.
Dr. Suchdevs research, which includes more than 140 scientific publications, explores the intersection of micronutrient malnutrition and infectious diseases, with a focus on improving nutrition assessment, refining biomarker interpretation, and shaping global nutrition policies. His work has informed World Health Organization guidelines and country-level strategies to prevent and treat anemia and micronutrient deficiencies in children and pregnant women.
He was the founding Director of the Emory School of Medicine Global Health & Equity Office and served as Associate Director of the Emory Global Health Institute. He is also a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Nutrition and a former chair of its Section on Global Health, contributing to evidence-based policy development to improve child health worldwide.
A committed educator, Dr. Suchdev has led the development of nutrition and global health training programs that equip the next generation of health professionals to address malnutrition and health disparities in diverse settings.
