Overview
Dr. Shayne is currently the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education and the ACGME Designated Institutional Official for the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Shayne is also Professor and Vice Chair for Education in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Emory. He has been on the faculty at Emory since 1996 and prior to his current position, Dr. Shayne was the Emergency Medicine Program Director for 17 years. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania in 1985, the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine in 1989, and the Cook County Hospital Emergency Medicine residency program in 1993. Dr. Shayne is a Past President of the Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Directors (CORD) and is an American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) oral boards examiner. Dr. Shayne is past member and chair of the Review Committee for Emergency Medicine of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

Research
Focus
- My research interests address innovations in clinical-based resident education, especially through new technologies. Also interested in using relational databases to track progress and assess competencies as residents develop in the field of Emergency Medicine and the use of real time evaluation in clinical development. I developed a standardizing directed observational assessment tool for all emergency medicine training.
