Overview
Paul L. DeSandre, DO, FACEP, FAAHPM, is the Chief of Palliative and Supportive Care at Grady Health System. He is the former Program Director for the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine and the former Associate Residency Director for Emergency Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center, New York, NY, and has a strong interest in medical education. His focus of interest is on the integration of Emergency Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He is a Master Facilitator in the NCI sponsored Education in Palliative and End of Life Care-Emergency Medicine (EPEC-EM) Project and has contributed to the Task Force Developing New Exam Content in Hospice and Palliative Medicine for the American Board of Internal Medicine.
His academic interests include educational interventions to advance interdisciplinary and interprofessional primary and specialty level palliative care skills, with a particular focus on the integration of palliative principles into standard Emergency Medicine practice and residency training. Additional interests include palliative considerations in organ donation and interdisciplinary museum-based education methodologies.
