Pratik Patel
Overview
Pratik Tik Patel, MD, is a dual-trained physician in both pediatric infectious diseases and hematology/oncology. In addition to caring for children at Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta, Dr. Patel also serves as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Patel earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia and completed his internship and residency at UT Southwestern/Childrens Health in Dallas, Texas. After his residency training, Dr. Patel moved to Atlanta where he completed fellowships in infectious diseases and hematology/oncology at Emory University School of Medicine/Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta. During his fellowship training, Dr. Patel also completed coursework for the Certificate Program in Translational Research through the Emory University Laney Graduate School.
Within the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Dr. Patel is the founding medical director of the Transplant and Oncology Infectious Disease team. Through this leadership role, he helps lead his team in providing specialized infectious disease care to children who are hospitalized and undergoing cancer treatment or who have received or plan to receive an organ or hematopoietic cell transplant.
Dr. Patel is also a pediatric oncologist on the leukemia and lymphoma team within the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center. He is the founding director of the Infection Defense program housed within the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center. In this role, Dr. Patel aims to prevent, diagnose and treat infections in children with cancer and blood disorders while collaborating closely with their hematology/oncology clinicians.
