Olamide Alabi
Overview
Dr. Alabi received her medical degree from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, trained in general surgery at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Southern California, and completed a fellowship in vascular surgery at Oregon Health and Science University.
While at OHSU, her growing interest in quality improvement and surgical education was demonstrated by her efforts to decrease inadvertent arterial cannulations during central venous line placement, and to develop a new curriculum via critical evaluation of vascular surgery resident education.
Dr Alabi's appreciation for multidisciplinary collaboration also began developing at OHSU, and was particularly expressed in her work to improve surgical outcomes in vascular reconstruction during oncologic surgery, and her leadership of several systems-level quality improvement initiatives, including the development of clinical protocols to fast-track endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR) at OHSU's aortic center.
At Emory, Dr. Alabi's research efforts began to focus on issues associated with peripheral artery disease (PAD). In 2020, she received two pilot grants, one from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), the other from Emory's Health Services Research Center (HSRC). The NHLBI grant is studying disparities in access and treatment for PAD among veterans, while the HSRC study is examining 90-day outcomes following lower extremity revascularization (LER) for PAD using unique data from a Vascular Quality Initiative-linked Medicare database.

Degrees
- MD from University of Nebraska College of Medicine
Research
Focus
-
Ensuring quality improvement in surgical care.
Dr. Alabi is dedicated to addressing health equity, particularly disparities in peripheral artery disease and aortic disease, and moving towards evidence based intervention and implementation. She is also interested in improving surgical education by focusing on curriculum development, critical assessment of technical and non-technical skills, and surgical simulation.
