Niall Galloway MD

  • Department of Urology
    Associate Professor, Emeritus
  • (404) 778-3809
Head shot of Niall Galloway

Overview

Born and raised in Scotland, Dr. Galloway attended medical school at Aberdeen University, graduating in 1974. He received his general surgery training and board certification in the United Kingdom and was admitted as a Fellow to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and England. Following his surgical internship, Dr. Galloway pursued specialization and research in the field of female pelvic surgery and reconstructive surgery at Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, NC.

In 1988, Dr. Galloway joined the Department of Urology at Emory University School of Medicine as Chief of Urology at Grady Memorial Hospital, a position he held until 1995. With his training, qualifications, and expertise in all facets of urological, gynecological, and intestinal/colorectal pelvic surgery, he was appointed Chief of Female Urology. He established a multidisciplinary center for female pelvic urology and reconstructive surgery.

Under Dr. Galloway's leadership, the Emory Continence Center was established and progressed to become a nationally renowned Center of Excellence. The service provides comprehensive evaluation and management for pelvic floor dysfunction, including urinary incontinence, organ prolapse, bowel problems, and pelvic pain. In addition to common urological and related gynecologic conditions, the center serves as the tertiary referral program for all complex incontinence conditions, pelvic organ prolapse, and reconstructive surgery from urologists in the Atlanta metro area, Georgia, neighboring states, and nationally. Dr. Galloway also serves as the Director of Transitional Care and Adult Clinical Services of the Center for Spina Bifida Research and Prevention, which was initiated in 2012.

Dr. Galloway's clinical and research interests include urinary incontinence, voiding dysfunction, neurogenic bladder dysfunction, neuromodulation, urodynamics, pelvic organ prolapse, and pelvic support anatomy. He is closely involved in teaching and mentoring medical students, urology residents, and post-graduate fellows. He lectures both nationally and internationally, is the author of multiple scientific journal articles, and is the recipient of numerous international awards.
