Michael Sterling MD
Overview
Michael Sterling, MD graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. He earned his medical degree from the St. Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at St. Louis University Hospital. During the third year of his residency, he served as the Chief Medical Resident at St Louis City Hospital. He completed a critical care fellowship at St. Louis University Hospital and St. Johns Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis.
After completing his fellowship, he entered into a private practice in Internal Medicine with a Critical Care consulting practice in Northern Vermont. After 5 years in private practice, he moved to Maine to become the Medical Director of a 19 bed Medical Surgical ICU at Central Maine Medical Center (CMMC). During his almost 20 years at CMMC, he assisted in the development of the critical care air transport service Life flight of Maine, sat on the steering committee for the development and implementation of Cardiothoracic Surgery Services, and collaborated with the Director of Trauma in developing a level II trauma center.
Dr. Sterling joined the faculty of Emory University School of Medicine in August of 2010, as an assistant professor and is currently the Director of Clinical Operations and an Assistant Director for the Emory Center of Critical Care, and the Medical Director of the Surgical ICU at Emory University Hospital Midtown. He is a Course Consultant for the Society of Critical Care Medicines Fundamentals of Critical care Support (FCCS) course and an FCCS instructor. He is a certified Advanced Cardiac Life Support instructor. Dr. Sterling is also the co-author of a critical care textbook and author of several textbook chapters and articles in critical care.
