Maggie Diller
Overview
Dr. Maggie Diller received her MD degree at The University of Arizona College of Medicine in 2012. She completed her general surgery residency at Emory University, during which she did a two-year research sabbatical under the mentorship of transplant immunologist Mandy Ford, PhD, and then-program director Keith Delman, MD. Prior to joining Emory as a faculty member, she completed her clinical fellowship in advanced gastrointestinal, minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in 2020.
Her primary clinical interests are minimally invasive and robotic surgery, primary and revisional bariatric surgery, hernia surgery including non-mesh hernia repair, chronic groin pain, gastroesophageal reflux, and benign foregut disease.
Dr. Diller's research concerns include integration of mind-body and complementary therapies into perioperative care, non-pharmacologic management of surgical pain and chronic pain syndromes, investigations into the connection between local and systemic inflammation and pain-related syndromes, and clinical trial design and implementation.
In 2021 she was the first recipient of the Department of Surgery Pilot Research Award, which she applied to evaluating a post-surgical pain management using a digital mindfulness intervention. Specifically, her study investigated the feasibility of a unique guided meditation designed by her team in collaboration with yoga and meditation science experts to control pain following oncologic surgery. The team adapted the exercise for delivery to patients via mobile phones.
