Mylin Torres MD
Overview
Mylin Torres, MD, is a Professor and serves as the Vice Chair of Academic Operations and the Director of the Division of Health Services Research, Outcomes, and Policy in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Torres also co-leads the Cancer Prevention and Control research program at the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, where she coordinates and promotes all cancer prevention and control-related research activities. She previously served as the Director of the Glenn Family Breast Center.
A board certified radiation oncologist, Dr. Torres practices general radiation oncology and specializes in the treatment of breast cancer.
Dr. Torres holds professional memberships withAmerican Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, Radiologic Society of North America, and American Association for Cancer Research.
Dr. Torres has been awarded many accolades for breakthroughs in breast cancer research and patient care. She has received highly competitive grants from the National Cancer Institute, Radiation Oncology Group (now NRG Oncology), Susan G. Komen and Winship Cancer Institute.
Dr. Torres received research awards and a traveling scholarship from Harvard and Stanford Universities. At MD Anderson Cancer Center, she was awarded the Barkley Award for Outstanding Resident Research (two consecutive years) and the Connie and Jim Walter Fellowship in Sarcoma Research.
Dr. Torres is the recipient of the Yamagiwa-Yoshida Memorial International Study Grant from the Union for International Cancer Control. With the grant, she studied a novel Japanese technology which enables real time tumor tracking radiotherapy.
For her work with patients, Dr. Torres received the Winship Above and Beyond Award. For her research on breast cancer treatment toxicities and side-effects, she was selected as the recipient the 2014 Health Care Heroes Rising Star Award sponsored by the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
Dr. Torres is a manuscript reviewer for the prestigious International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics. Dr. Torres has written and co-authored a number of publications and abstracts.

Focus
- My goal is to develop an integrated program of multi-disciplinary research dedicated to understanding and developing treatments antagonizing pathophysiologic mechanisms underlying radiotherapy-related toxicities. Ultimately, the intent is to prevent treatment emergent side effects that can persist into survivorship and significantly affect the life quality of breast cancer patients.
