Laura Johnson
Overview
Dr. Laura Johnson is Medical Director of the Burn Center at Grady Memorial Hospital and Associate Program Director of the Department of Surgery's General Surgery Residency. She received her MD degree from the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, completed her general surgery residency at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., and did her fellowship in trauma and surgical critical care at Emory University School of Medicine.
Prior to joining Emory in 2022, she held positions at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Georgetown University School of Medicine, Medstar Washington Hospital Center, and the Childrens National Medical Center.
In addition to her clinical activities, Dr. Johnson is deeply committed to education; mentoring medical students and residents across a range of disciplines; lecturing; and publishing on burn, trauma, and ethics topics. She is a highly active researcher who has received federal, institutional, and corporate grants in such areas as organ donation in burn patients, evaluating hemofiltration in adult burn patients with septic shock and acute renal failure, and temporary skin coverage for deep thickness burns.
