Overview

Lauren Lichten MS, CGC received a BA in Molecular Biology from Colgate University in 2003 and an MS in Genetic Counseling from Brandeis University in 2005. Ms. Lichen joined the Emory Genetic Counseling Training Program faculty in 2019 as the Assistant Program Director, was promoted to Co-Director in 2022, and Program Director in 2023. Ms. Lichten has worked in genetic counseling education since 2013. Positions prior to Emory University included Instructor at Boston University School of Medicine's Genetic Counseling Program (2013-2017) and Associate Director of the Brandeis Genetic Counseling Program (2017-2019).

Ms. Lichten has served on committees for the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC), American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC), Accreditation Council of Genetic Counseling (ACGC), and the Association of Genetic Counseling Program Directors (AGCPD), including chairing the AGCPD Membership Committee (2020-2022) and ACGC Standards Committee (2022-2023). In 2021, she was awarded the NSGC Audrey Heimler Special Projects Award to develop a guide for telehealth genetic counseling student supervision. This project was conducted as part of her participation in the Emory University Woodruff Health Educators Academy (WHEA) Fellowship in educational research, for which she earned a Medical Education Research Certificate from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).

Ms. Lichten has clinical genetic counseling experience in prenatal, pediatrics, and adult neurology. Since 2019, she has provided genetic counseling services at the Emory ALS Center.

Ms. Lichten is the primary instructor for Introduction to Genetic Counseling (HGC705); Clinic Preparation (HGC 735 a), and Theory and Practice III (HGC 810); a co-instructor for Seminar I-IV (HGC 730a-d), and the GC student Ethics sessions (PA7103). She also is involved in coordinating and mentoring student focus projects.
