Overview
Dr Lara R Harik is a surgical pathologist with over 15 years of experience. She specializes in Genitourinary pathology.
Dr Harik holds several leadership positions including:
- Medical Director for the Clinical Laboratories Hospital Service Line.
- Director of PEACE (Partnership of Emory and Africa for Cancer and Education), a virtual yearly educational curriculum partnering with Pathologists in Africa.
- Rotation Director of the Genitourinary Service.
Dr Harik is also heavily involved in national and regional medical associations.
Dr Harik is President and Board Member of the Georgia Association of Pathology (GAP), a state wide organization dedicated to supporting pathologists mission in the Southeast. She also served as treasurer and Chair of the Education Committee and has successfully organized the GAP annual meetings, GAP Virtual Presentations (a monthly conference) and GAPNews (periodic newsletter).
Dr Harik is on the College of American Pathologist (CAP) Cancer Committee, where she serves as Vice Chair of the committee. She is responsible for creating and updating the Cancer protocol Synoptic worksheets in gynecologic and genitourinary pathology.
Dr Harik is also the Chair of the Pathology committee of the Global Society of Rare Genitourinary Tumors, a Society focused on increasing awareness and education of rare GU tumors.
Dr Harik is involved in multiple research projects. She is the recipient of a Winship Invest Prostate Cancer Research Pilot Project Program focusing on high risk prostatic adenocarcinoma patients with lymph node metastasis. Dr Harik is also a co-investigator of an industry funded grant on urothelial carcinoma, focusing on variant and divergent differentiation.
