Overview

Dr. Larry Davis retired from Emory University in 2011. He came to Emory University and The Emory Clinic in 1991 as the chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology. At that time, the Dean of the Emory University School of Medicine, Dr. Jeffrey Houpt, had the foresight to recognize Radiation Oncology as a distinct medical specialty and to appoint someone of the national stature of Dr. Davis as its first chair.

Prior to coming to Emory, Dr. Davis was Professor and Chair at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He has been the president and chair of such prestigious organizations as the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO), American Radium Society (ARS) and received the Gold Medal from the American College of Radiology (ACR) for his contributions over the past 40 years. He was instrumental in the development of the ACR Patterns of Care Study, which assessed the practice of radiation therapy and is an author on over 100 publications.

Dr. Davis leadership at Emory over a 19 year period was instrumental in bringing the Department of Radiation Oncology from a small, relatively unknown medical practice to one of national and international distinction. His vision for a state-of-the-art department for not only outstanding clinical care, but teaching and research, has led to a highly unique academic environment for over 125 staff, faculty and trainees.
