Keneeshia Williams
Overview
Growing up in a community that often experienced gun violence provided the initial spark for Dr. Williams to eventually become a specialized trauma surgeon.
She received her MD degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria and completed her general surgery residency at University of Illinois at Mount Sinai Hospital. She undertook a one-year research residency in the NIH-funded training program in trauma and burn research at the Burn and Shock Trauma Research Institute of Loyola University Medical Center, and did her surgical critical care/acute care surgery fellowship at Banner-University Medical Center Tucson.
In 2017, Dr. Williams joined the Emory Department of Surgery. Her primary clinical location is Grady Memorial Hospital, where she serves as a trauma surgeon, emergency/elective general surgeon, and surgical critical care intensivist. She is also the chief quality officer for the Department of Surgery at Grady, as well as surgeon champion for the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) at the public hospital.
In addition to her commitment to violence prevention outreach, Dr. Williams is highly dedicated to improving surgical education at an institutional and departmental level. She serves as director of medical student education at Grady, and is developing a quality improvement curriculum based on medical students working with established quality and safety initiatives both at Grady and across Emory.
