Kevin Hendler DDS
Overview
Dr. Hendler is an associate professor in the Emory University School of Medicine, Division of General Medicine and Geriatrics. He graduated from the State University of New York at Binghamton (BA) and received his DDS with honors from the School of Dentistry, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Hendler completed his postgraduate training in Hospital Dentistry at the University of Rochester and in Geriatric Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Center. He is a Fellow in the American Society for Geriatric Dentistry, the International College of Dentists and board-certified in special care dentistry, with recognized proficiency in geriatric dentistry. Dr. Hendler is a past president of the American Society for Geriatric Dentistry, Special Care Dentistry Association and the American Board of Special Care Dentistry
Dr. Hendler was Director of the Ina T. Allen Dental Center at Wesley Woods Center of Emory University for more than 30 years and is now Director of Dental Oncology at Winship Cancer Institute at Emory Midtown.
Dr. Hendlers past research focused on the oral health of individuals with dementia. He recently completed a study evaluating the integration of medicine and dentistry utilizing a smart phone app and he is currently a co-investigator on an NIH funded study investigating the contribution of the oral microbiome to Alzheimers Disease risk.
Dr. Hendler's teaching focuses on the relationship between oral health and general health. He educates residents and fellows through Emory University School of Medicines Geriatric Fellowship, Residency, and Post Graduate Programs. He lectures locally and nationally on oral health care for older adults and individuals with head and neck cancer.
Dr. Hendler has served as a member of committees locally, nationally and internationally. He has served on the boards of the American Society for Geriatric Dentistry (ASGD), Special Care Dentistry Association and is currently serving as a board member of the American Board of Special Care Dentistry.
His clinical practice is located in the Head and Neck Program at the Winship Cancer Institute at Emory Midtown where he provides dental care to patients with head and neck cancer.
