Overview

Research Interests

The overall focus of my research is to understand the effect of seizures on molecular dynamics and neural function in the brain and how dysfunction in these processes contributes to epileptogenesis and, ultimately, the development of epilepsy. By increasing our understanding of epileptogenesis, we will identify molecular and neural targets for the development of novel treatments for epilepsy and its associated behavioral abnormalities, and potentially other neurological disorders. To approach these issues, I use mouse models (both genetic and acquired epilepsy) to evaluate the long-term effect of early-life seizures on seizures and behavior. These mouse models also provide the opportunity to investigate the therapeutic potential of established anti-epileptic drugs and novel treatments.
