Overview
Dr. Wallenstein joined the Emory University School of Medicine faculty in 2004. He received his MD at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and completed his emergency medicine residency at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York.
Dr. Wallensteins primary academic interest is the professional and career development of medical trainees and academic physicians. He has held multiple leadership roles within undergraduate medical education at Emory and works with pre-health college students through his role as Lead Physician Advisor in the Emory Pre-Health Advising office. He provides career and promotion mentorship for junior and mid-career faculty within the Department of Emergency Medicine, where he serves as Associate Chair of the Appointments, Promotion, and Tenure Committee. He has served on numerous School of Medicine committees, including the Executive Curriculum Committee, Admissions Committee, and Faculty Committee on Appointments and Promotions.
Dr. Wallensteins research interests include the use of Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) and other tools to assess clinical reasoning skills in undergraduate medical education. He is the recipient of numerous teaching awards, including the Deans Teaching Award and the Clerkship Directors in Emergency Medicine (CDEM) Distinguished Educator Award.

Research
Focus
- My research has focused on innovative instructional and evaluative methods in medical education. In particular I have studied methods of teaching and evaluating the cognitive skills of clinical reasoning and medical decision-making such as problem-based learning, objective structured clinical examinations, and other uses of standardized patients.
