Overview
Dr. Javidfar is a cardiothoracic surgeon on faculty at Emory School of Medicine since 2016. In that time he has been appointed the Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Atlanta Veteran's Affairs Hospital, where he practices general thoracic surgery. He is also the Associate Surgical Director of the Emory Adult ECMO program where he provides surgical support for Venovenous and Venoarterial ECMO in patients with heart and lung disease at Emory University Hospital. In this capacity he is an active member of Emory's remote cannulation team. He is a leading national figure in the field of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation having spoken and presented research at numerous national and international conferences.
Dr. Javidfar is also the Assistant Surgical Director of Lung Transplantation at Emory University Hospital where his specialty areas include end-stage lung disease, venovenous and venoarterial ECMO, benign lung disease surgery, lung cancer surgery, and bronchial and tracheal surgery.
Prior to joining the faculty at Emory, he completed his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Duke University Medical Center with a special focus on lung transplantation and ECMO. Dr Javidfar completed general surgery residency training and a cardiothoracic transplant procurement fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center, New York Presbyterian Hospital from 2007-2013. He received his MD and graduated with honors from Stony Brook Medical School in 2007.
Dr Javidfar also has a passion for medical student and resident teaching. He serves as the Director of Medical Student Education for the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Emory School of medicine. He also serves on several institutional and national education committees. He has lectured extensively and taught numerous hands on ECMO courses to national and international audiences.
