Overview
Arthur H. Yancey II, MD, MPH is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine in the Emory University School of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine. He presently serves as medical director of Grady EMS, the 911 ambulance provider for the City of Atlanta and South Fulton County. He is also medical director for the College Park Fire First Response Service, and the emergency medical dispatch (EMD) programs of Fulton County Emergency Services, and ChatComm 9-1-1.
Dr. Yancey graduated from The University of Michigan Medical School, completed General Surgery residency training at Howard University, and a Burn Surgery fellowship at Brooke Army Burn Center (U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research). His Master of Public Health degree is in Health Policy and Management from The Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health. He is a fellow of The American College of Emergency Physicians and The International Academy of Emergency Dispatch.
His professional experience began as a trauma surgeon and developed into that of a practicing emergency physician at Grady Memorial Hospital, an EMS medical director for Fulton County, and Deputy Director for Emergency Medical Services in the Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness. Since joining Grady EMS, he has provided medical direction for its EMD, Special Event, Specialty Care (interfacility) Transport, Crisis (psychiatric) Intervention, and Mobile Integrated Health (MIH) programs. He collaborated in the planning that resulted in inauguration of Atlantas Grady-Emory Mobile Stroke Unit.
Previous service includes membership on the Emergency Medical Services and Transportation Subcommittee of The Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games serving as its co-chair for two years. He has chaired the National Association of EMS Physicians Public Health Committee. He has served on the editorial board of Prehospital Emergency Care. He has consulted for The South African Department of Public Health on matters pertaining to EMS, from regionalization of services, to workforce protection from contagious disease, planning for the 2010 World Cup Games, and organization of maternal interfacility transport.

Focus
- My research focus is in out-of hospital emergency medical services (EMS), specifically, the intersection of populations' health with emergency medical and disaster planning care. Specific areas of work include Emergency Medical Service injury prevention, mass gathering medical care, emergency medical dispatch and communications, and emergency systems planning, both nationally and internationally.
