Irfan Husain
Overview
Irfan Husain, MD, MPH is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. He works clinically in the emergency department at Grady Memorial Hospital. Dr. Hussain is among the EMS faculty of the Emory Section of Prehospital and Disaster Medicine.
Dr. Husain, originally from North Carolina, completed his undergraduate education at Duke University in Economics. He completed his medical school at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. He went on to pursue a Master of Public Health at the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University, where he concentrated in Health in Crisis and Humanitarian Assistance. The concentration focused on vulnerable populations and the health issues they face, and served as the catalyst for Dr. Husains interest in disaster preparedness.
He completed his emergency medicine training at McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, where he served as vice-chief resident of EMS. Afterwards, he completed a one-year fellowship in EMS at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. As a fellow, he was able to further his understanding of EMS operations and medical direction through his roles as Assistant EMS Medical Director for Wake County (NC), Assistant EMS Medical Director for Orange County (NC), and Assistant Medical Director for the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. His current research focus remains in disaster preparedness.
