Overview
Howa Yeung, MD MSc is an Associate Professor of Dermatology at the Emory University School of Medicine. He is a faculty member of Cancer Prevention and Control research program at the Winship Cancer Institute and PRISM Health (Programs, Research, & Innovation in Sexual Minority Health) at the Rollins School of Public Health.
Dr. Yeung graduated with a Bachelor of Science, summa cum laude, from the City College of New York. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from New York University School of Medicine with AOA honors. He completed a NIAMS T32 dermatoepidemiology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania during medical school. He trained at Yale-New Haven Hospital for his internal medicine internship and at Emory University School of Medicine for his dermatology residency, serving as chief resident. After residency, he completed his Master of Science in Clinical Research from Emory University Laney Graduate School.
Dr. Yeung has research expertise on skin diseases that disproportionately affect minority populations, with a focus on those affecting sexual and gender minority patients, such as 1) skin cancers in men who have sex with men and persons living with HIV and 2) cutaneous effects of hormone therapy in transgender and gender diverse persons. His research has been funded by multiple federal and private foundation grants. He is an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology, Society of Investigative Dermatology, and Gay and Lesbian Dermatology Association. He is a World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Global Education Institute (GEI) Standards of Care Version 8 Certified Member. He serves as the President of the Atlanta Association for Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery and an Associate Editor of JAMA Dermatology.

Epidemiology and treatment of skin diseases affecting minority populations
Our research team characterizes the 1) epidemiology and treatment of common skin diseases among sexual and gender minority patients and patients living with HIV and 2) patient experiences of cutaneous adverse effects of immunotherapy and hormone therapy. We broadly apply epidemiology, health services, and implementation science research techniques to improve the outcome and equity of dermatologic treatments.
