Overview
Hyunsuk Shim, PhD, joined the Department of Radiation Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine in 2017. Dr. Shim is Professor and Crocker Family Chair in Cancer Innovation and serves as Promotions Committee Director in the Department. Prior to joining the Department, she was on faculty with Emory's Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences.
Dr. Shim has emerged as one of Georgia's most promising biomedical researchers and has been recognized as a Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished Scholar and a member of the Council of Distinguished Investigators of the Academy of Radiology Research. She leads Emory Universitys NCI Quantitative Imaging Network team, which is working on groundbreaking research on glioblastoma using high resolution/high speed volumetric MR spectroscopic imaging (MRSI). She also serves on the Molecular Pharmacology & Systems Graduate Program Executive Committee.
Dr. Shim obtained her PhD at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Urbana, Illinois.
Dr. Shim has expertise in spectroscopic MRI and brain tumors. Her brain imaging team has developed an advanced MRSI technique combined with a multi-modality imaging platform to assess how glioblastomas are responding to therapies by quantitatively measuring metabolic processes. In addition, she leads the technical development of 3D whole-brain spectroscopic MRI to guide high dose radiation therapy for brain tumors.
