Overview
Heba Iskandar, MD is associate professor of medicine in the Emory University Division of Digestive Diseases. Dr. Iskandar is the Director of the Emory IBD Program. Dr. Iskandar has a strong clinical interest in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Her research focuses on the social and psychological facets of IBD and improving quality of life in IBD patients.
Her current work is focused on medication adherence, health disparities, and health literacy in IBD. She has a strong interest in quality improvement, with prior studies involving following colonoscopy interval guidelines and rates of celiac testing. Dr. Iskandar runs the clinical trials program for IBD patients who have failed other therapies and has an ongoing clinical registry for IBD patients seen in the clinic.
Dr. Iskandar completed her medical school training and gastroenterology fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, where she also completed a masters of science in clinical investigation. She completed her internal medicine residency at Brigham and Womens Hospital. She is a member of the Crohns and Colitis Foundation Research Alliance and is on board of the Georgia Chapter of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation and has served on multiple national committees with the Crohn's and Colitis foundation.
