Guillermo Escobar
Overview
Dr. Escobar graduated with honors from La Salle University Medical School in Mexico City in 2000. After his general surgery internship at the Mayo Clinic, he completed his general surgery residency at the University of Colorado in 2008. During this time, he participated in an NIH Basic Science Research Fellowship, receiving the University of Colorado's Ben Eiseman Basic Sciences Research Award. Dr. Escobar then completed a two-year vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Michigan, during which he won the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery's Top Gun Champion Award in 2009, and was runner-up in 2010.
He joined the University of Michigan's faculty until 2013, earning its Arnold G. Coran award for excellence in surgical teaching, as well as research awards from the Society of Vascular Surgery and the Vascular and Endovascular Surgical Society. From 2013-2017 he served on the faculty at the University of Arkansas, where he received the Red Sash Teaching Award.
Dr. Escobar was honored to join Emory's faculty as Program Director for the Vascular Surgery Fellowship in 2017. Shortly after his arrival he helped start the Integrated Vascular Residency and in 2020 the Early Specialization Program.
He is passionate about managing and teaching all modern approaches for vascular disease, including complex aortic, carotid, vertebral, and mesenteric artery diseases. He also has special interests in popliteal entrapment, mycotic (infected) aneurysms, and complex dialysis access.
