Eric Knauer
Overview
Dr. Knauer received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. His postgraduate training included a general surgery residency at the University of Connecticut and a minimally invasive surgery fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine. John Sweeney, MD, chair of the Emory Department of Surgery, was chief of minimally invasive surgery at Baylor during Dr. Knauer's fellowship and his primary mentor.
Dr Knauer Joined Emory in 2018 after 15 years of private practice in Atlanta. He serves as chief of general surgery at Emory University Hospital Midtown (EUHM), where he is also the site director for medical, physician assistant, and nurse practitioner student education. He is very active in resident training, has received several teaching awards, is a member of the department's resident interview committee, wrote the telehealth training policy for residents at EUHM, and is developing a curriculum for laparoscopic common bile duct training.
