Imaging brain responses to chronic, immune system dysfunction
My work focuses on using cutting-edge neuroimaging methods to examine the link between immune dysregulation, brain glutamate changes, and behavioral disorders. My work has established that chronic immune activation in depression and other medical conditions are associated with glutamate increases in subcortical and cortical regions, which regulate hedonistic capacity, motivation, and arousal. My work is now focussed on linking above mechanisms to progressive neuropathology seen in some subjects with mood disorders.
