Damian Dyckman
Overview
Dr. Dyckman is an assistant professor of radiology and ABR board certified diagnostic radiologist in the Division of Musculoskeletal Imaging. A graduate of the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, Dr. Dyckman also earned a Ph.D. in physiology as part of the NIH-sponsored M.D./Ph.D. dual degree program. His research focused on exercise conditioning and deconditioning, adaptations to stress physiology, microneurography, sympathetic control (both skin and muscle contributions), blood pressure regulation, vestibular physiology, and cellular and molecular physiology.
After a transitional year internship in otolaryngology at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Virginia, he completed naval flight surgeon training at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in Pensacola, FL. He then served with the United States Navy and Marine Corps as a Naval Flight Surgeon from 2011-2018, deploying to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom and on the USS Nimitz for Operation Enduring Freedom and New Dawn serving as Squadron Flight Surgeon with VMM-365 and VMFA-323. He then served as the Group Flight Surgeon for MAG-11 and the Deputy Wing Flight Surgeon for 3d MAW at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. Lastly, Dr. Dyckman served as the Clinic Flight Surgeon and Aviation Department Head for Naval Branch Health Clinic Miramar at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar while serving as the squadron flight surgeon for Marine Corps Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron and the Operational Medicine Clerkship Site director for Naval Branch Health Clinic Miramar.
Following his active duty service time with the US Navy, Dr. Dyckman completed diagnostic radiology residency at Emory University School of Medicine. As part of the Research Track, his research interest focused on assisting in the development of brain MRI elastography and investigated the use of ultrasound shear wave elastography to measure tendon health. He then completed a musculoskeletal imaging fellowship at Emory University. He continues to serve in the US Navy Reserve as a diagnostic radiologist and holds the rank of Commander.
