Overview

Ribosome function and structure; mechanism of viral mRNA frameshifts; structure and function of RNA-binding proteins involved in mRNA processing and transport

Academic Appointment

  • Professor, Biochemistry, Emory University School of Medicine
  • Associate Professor, Biochemistry, Emory University School of Medicine
  • Associated Faculty, Chemistry, Emory University
  • Assistant Professor, Biochemistry, Emory University School of Medicine

Education

Degrees

  • PhD, Structural Biology from University of California, Santa Cruz
  • BA, Biochemistry from Barnard College, Columbia University

Research

Focus

  • The long-term goal of my laboratory is to determine the molecular basis for quality control mechanisms and regulatory processes mediated by proteins and/or RNA ligands during translation. We use a combination of state-of-the-art structural biology, biochemical and biophysical techniques to answer key questions of RNA-protein recognition and catalysis of the bacterial ribosome.
