Overview
Dr. Adam Lorentz is an Assistant Professor of Urology at the Emory University School of Medicine and Chief of Urology at Emory University Hospital Midtown. He graduated from the Honors Program at the University of Georgia with Bachelor of Science degrees in Genetics and Psychology. He attended medical school at the Emory University School of Medicine, where he participated widely in volunteer service locally and abroad, including work with the Emory Haiti Alliance. He went on to complete his internship and residency training at Emory and joined Emory Urology as a faculty member in 2018. His clinical interests include urologic cancers, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), kidney stone disease, and minimally invasive surgery.
Dr. Lorentz has been recognized for excellence in both academics and patient care. He was awarded the William Hollis Cooner Award for exemplary compassion and patient care as well as the Montague Boyd research award from the Southeastern Section of the American Urological Association. He's been recognized by his peers with the Hidden Gem award, calling him "a consummate physician leader who is esteemed by his team, his colleagues and his patients alike."
Dr. Lorentz is an experienced robotic surgeon and the first urologist in Atlanta to perform single-port robotic surgery using the advanced Da Vinci SP platform. This allows for less-invasive approaches to common urological surgeries, including extraperitoneal prostate and kidney surgery. He also offers focal therapy for prostate cancer, having performed the first High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) prostate ablation treatments at Emory. He strives to bring the most current treatments to his patients for improving quality of life, such as penile prosthesis and benign prostate treatments like Aquablation and UroLift. He is involved in mentoring medical students and residents. His research has earned numerous awards; he has co-authored over 35 peer-reviewed scientific journal articles and abstracts, which have been presented locally, nationally, and internationally. As Medical Director of The Emory Clinic Urology at Emory University Hospital Midtown, Co-Director of the Community Division of Emory Urology, and Medical Director for Emory Healthcare Patient Access, Dr. Lorentz is working to expand access to urologic care in Atlanta and the surrounding communities. He serves as Chief of Urology at Emory University Hospital Midtown.
