Profile

Charles Gillespie MD/PhD

  • Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
    Associate Professor
  • (404) 727-8563
  • cgilles@emory.edu

Academic Appointment

  • Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Emory University School of Medicine
  • Scientific Affiliate, Emory Psychoanalytic Institute, Emory University

Education

Degrees

  • MA from University of Georgia
  • MD from Medical College of Georgia
  • Doctor of Philosophy from Georgia State University
  • BA from University of Georgia

Research

Focus

  • My primary research interest is the study of the psychobiology of trauma and stress across the lifespan. In addition to the complications of trauma-related psychopathology (post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, personality disorders, and substance abuse), individuals exposed to trauma during early life also often are carry a heavy burden of stress-related medical illness including obesity, diabetes mellitus, and cardiovascular disease.
