Overview

Dr. Trammell is an internist in the Division of General Internal Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. He completed his medical degree at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN and Internal Medicine Residency at Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, GA. Dr. Trammell served as a Chief Resident of Internal Medicine followed by a two-year research fellowship at the Mercer University School of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology. He investigated factors that impact long-term survival and cognitive status after in-hospital cardiac arrest. After completing the research fellowship, he joined the Emory University School of Medicine faculty in 2009.

Dr. Trammell completed additional research training in cardiovascular disease (CVD) sponsored by the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, New York. In 2016, he completed the Executive Masters in Public Health program at the Emory University Rollins School of Public Health. Dr. Trammell currently has a mentored research award from the National Institute of Aging (NIA) and works with Dr. Ihab Hajjar.

Dr. Trammells research interests include the role of psychosocial stress on epigenetic changes with brain health including cognitive performance and cerebrovascular function. He also has an interest in cardiovascular and cognitive outcomes following cardiac arrest. Since joining the Emory faculty he became a member of the Grady Memorial Hospital Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Committee, served on a regional Emergency Cardiovascular Care for the American Heart Association, and participated in investigations exploring quality of brain resuscitation during in-hospital cardiac arrest. Dr. Trammell is a co-director of the Resuscitation Readiness Training Program for the J. Willis Hurst Internal Medicine Residency Program at Emory University School of Medicine.

Dr. Trammell is enthusiastic about community engagement as a physician and works to address the impact of social and environmental factors on healthcare delivery and outcomes. He is the Medical Director of the Refugee Clinic at the Grady Memorial Hospital Primary Care Center.
