Abhinav Goyal MD, MHS
Overview
Abhinav Goyal, MD, MHS, FACC, FAHA is an academic cardiologist and clinical investigator who serves as Professor of Medicine (Division of Cardiology) at the Emory School of Medicine; Professor of Epidemiology at Emory Rollins School of Public Health; and Chief Quality Officer for the Emory Heart and Vascular Center at Emory Healthcare. He is responsible for directing all quality-related initiatives in the Emory Heart and Vascular Center, including providing physician oversight for Emory Hospitals' participation in the American College of Cardiology National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR CathPCI Registry and LAAO Registry); American Heart Association (AHA) GWTD-CAD Registry and Mission: Lifeline program for patients with acute heart attacks; and The Emory Clinic's quality improvement initiatives pertaining to cardiovascular performance measures. Dr. Goyal serves on a number of American Heart Association (AHA) and American College of Cardiology (ACC) committees, including the ACC/AHA 2025 Acute Coronary Syndromes Guideline Writing Committee; Chair of the AHA Coronary Artery Disease Systems of Care Advisory Committee; and ACC/NCDR Metrics Reporting and Methodology Subcommittee. An active clinical investigator, Dr. Goyal has over 120 published manuscripts (not including abstracts). His research interests include population research investigating the link between diabetes or dysglycemia and cardiovascular disease; quality, health services research, and outcomes research in cardiovascular medicine; classification and management of acute myocardial infarction; implementation of high-sensitivity troponin assays in health systems; and cardiovascular clinical trials.
Dr. Goyal practices general cardiology (inpatient and CCU) at Emory University Hospital Midtown, and he co-directs the nuclear cardiology laboratory at Emory University Hospital, where he reads cardiac PET and SPECT studies.

Focus
- My research has focused on two areas. 1) Clinical trials and epidemiology of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. In particular, I am interested in blood glucose as a marker of risk and potential therapeutic target in acute coronary syndrome patients. 2) Quality and outcomes research in cardiovascular medicine.
