Ahmed Al-Khafaji
Overview
Dr. Ahmed B. Al-Khafaji is an interventional radiologist whose experience encompasses the full-breadth of image-guided, minimally invasive procedures for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. He has a keen interest in treating cancer patients by providing locoregional therapies including Yttrium-90 Radioembolization and Chemoembolization; Microwave-, Radiofrequency-, and Cryo- Ablation; as well as innumerable palliative interventions. Additionally, he offers non-cancer related treatments including Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPS) creation and Plug-Assisted or Balloon-occluded Retrograde Transvenous Obliteration (PARTO or BRTO) for liver cirrhosis with portal hypertension, catheter thrombectomy for submassive pulmonary embolism, Endovascular Hemodialysis Fistula creation for end-stage renal disease, and Prostate Artery Embolization (PAE) for benign prostatic hyperplasia, Geniculate Artery Embolization (GAE) for knee osteoarthritis, and Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) for fibroids.
Dr. Al-Khafaji is a published researcher who has earned grant funding from The Beckwith Institute to investigate radiomic features of colorectal cancer liver metastases and from the Society of Interventional Radiology to analyze outcomes in the IR Residency Match.
Dr. Al-Khafaji completed his clinical internship and Vascular and Interventional Radiology training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
