Multidisciplinary classical hematology pairs the traditional training with career enhancing opportunities in transfusion medicine, sickle cell disease, and hemostasis and thrombosis.
Overview
The Hematology-Focused Fellowship Training Program (HFFTP), created by the American Society of Hematology, aims to enhance recruitment of internal medicine and internal medicine-pediatrics residency graduates into academic careers in classical hematology.
The HFFTP will offer rigorous clinical and translational research training under the mentorship of experienced faculty. Integrated into the highly successful Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship Program at Emory University School of Medicine, the HFFTP will train two fellows per year for three years of support, for a period of five years.
The HFFTP track integrates into the combined/core program by incorporating the malignant and classical hematology curriculum, including educational/didactic activities in the first year. During the second year, both groups of trainees engage in research activities based on career path. HFFTP fellows will have an enhanced research experience with up to 24 months of clinical or basic/translational research, including the option of enrolling in Emory's Master of Science in Clinical Research Program or the Certificate Program in Translational Research. In addition, both groups share educational activities related to research, wellness, and career development. During the third year, trainees have a combination of research, electives, and assigned clinical rotations. At the completion of the HFFTP, fellows will be single board eligible in hematology.
How to Apply
Eligible candidates will be MDs and DOs who completed training in internal medicine or medicine-pediatrics. Candidates will be selected based on prior accomplishments, academic potential, and commitment to classical hematology.
Fellows are selected for the program approximately 7-10 months before the start date of July 1. We will accept two applicants for the July 1, 2025 start date, with the application process opening July 1, 2024.
