Paul Tso MD
Overview
Dr. Tso earned his MD from the University of Maryland, completed his general surgery residency at Louisiana State University, did his fellowship in traumatology and critical care at the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems, and completed his fellowship in transplantation at Ohio State University.
Dr. Tso's clinical specialties are dual renal transplant, islet transplant, pancreatic transplant, and live donor nephrectomy. His primary research pursuits are developing methods of increasing the donor organ pool and evaluating policies of organ allocation.
In 2017, Dr. Tso and his surgical team performed Emory's first HIV to HIV kidney transplant. The procedure was the first of its kind in Georgia and the first HIV to HIV positive kidney transplant that year.

Research
Focus
- One of the problems in transplantation is the shortage of donor organs. My research interests include methods to increase the donor pool. Expanded criteria or marginal donor organs are being transplanted but strategies to ensure optimal utilization without compromising graft and patient survival need to be developed and refined.
