Introduction
Invasive mechanical ventilation is a common intervention and life support modality for critically ill adults with respiratory failure. While potentially life-saving, mechanical ventilation carries risks when its conduct does not conform to established best practices. We developed a real-time dashboard stretching across the Emory Critical Care Center to monitor mechanical ventilation safety parameters. Clinicians can use this information to screen for patients at risk for ventilator-induced lung injury. Additionally, in gauging the severity of respiratory failure, clinicians can also screen for patients who may require advanced approaches to mechanical ventilation and/or escalation to extracorporeal support therapies.
