Eric Honig MD
Overview
Dr. Eric Honig received his AB and MD degrees in 1972 from Boston University, and completed his Internal Medicine and clinical pulmonary postgraduate training at Emory University. After a postdoctoral fellowship in respiratory physiology at Johns Hopkins, he returned to Emory to join the faculty in 1979. From 1979 to 2000, he was chief of pulmonary services at Grady Memorial Hospital, where he continues as an active clinician-teacher. He received Golden Apple awards from the Department of Medicine in 1992 and 2002, and a Deans Teaching Award in 2003 from the School of Medicine. Dr. Honig is the medical director of the Pulmonary Clinic, medical director of the Pulmonary Function and Sleep Laboratory, medical director of the Respiratory Therapy Department at Grady Memorial Hospital, and chair of the hospitals Resuscitation Committee. He maintains interests in the physiology of mechanical ventilation, asthma, and the respiratory manifestations of HIV infection.
Dr. Honig is a past president of the Georgia Thoracic Society, and a member of the American Thoracic Society, American College of Chest Physicians, American College of Physicians, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. From 1983 to 2003, he was the respiratory section coordinator for the second year Pathophysiology course at Emory University School of Medicine and continues as a participant in the course. Dr. Honig spent the last 6 years as the director for the M4 Critical Care Medicine clerkship in the School of Medicine with a particular interest in clinical simulation.
He retired from active practice in 2018.
