Your Specialty:
Pediatric Emergency Medicine
How did you choose your specialty?
I enjoy the opportunity to make a lasting impression on a child’s life. I enjoy the Emergency Department because no two shifts are ever alike. I get to manage critically ill patients, perform procedures, and teach families.
Where and for how many years did you train AFTER medical school?
Pediatric Residency at UAB and Johns Hopkins (three years) and Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship at Johns Hopkins (three years)
What do you like MOST, and like LEAST, about your specialty?
Kids are a lot of fun and make me laugh all the time! The part I enjoy the least is breaking bad news to families.
In your opinion, what attributes are important in anyone choosing this specialty?
One has to be flexible, energetic, and feel comfortable making critical decisions very quickly.
