Your Specialty:
Emergency Medicine
How did you choose your specialty?
Emergency Medicine provides me the opportunity to treat a broad variety of illnesses, in varying degrees of acuity, to do procedures, and to provide care to an often underserved population. I take pride in the fact that we as Emergency Physicians see anyone, anytime, for anything.
What do you like MOST, and like LEAST, about your specialty?
Most: Just like all specialties, there are benefits and challenges. The most amazing thing is that we can care for anyone with any complaint, at any time, regardless of ability to pay.
Least: The challenge that follows is that we all work nights, weekends, and holidays.
In your opinion, what attributes are important in anyone choosing this specialty?
The people that work best in this specialty can be calm and focus despite chaos, stay organized, manage multiple tasks at one time, and work quickly and easily with many other members of the emergency department team.
