Undergrad Institution; Degree and Major:

University of Florida - BS in Zoology

Medical School:

Emory University School of Medicine

In practice since:

1993

Your Specialty:

Pediatrics

Where and for how many years did you train AFTER medical school:

Emory University Affiliated Hospitals – 3 years pediatric residency; 1 year as chief resident in pediatrics

How did you choose your specialty?

My pediatrician as a child was my influence.

What do you like MOST, and like LEAST, about your specialty?

Most - I love working with kids, the young children present a unique challenge, they are non-verbal or what they say means nothing. You have to figure it out through history from the parents and your clinical acumen.

Least - When a child dies. Clearly their life was too short.

In your opinion, what attributes are important in anyone choosing this specialty?

  • Communication skills with children & parents
  • Patience

Hobbies/special interests:

  • Avid cyclist
  • Theatre
