Jason S. Schneider, MD, FACP

Undergrad Institution; Degree and Major:

Tulane University - B.S. in Cell & Molecular Biology

Medical School:

NYU School of Medicine

In practice since:

2003

Your Specialty:

Internal Medicine

Where and for how many years did you train AFTER medical school:

3 years residency training, Emory University School of Medicine Affiliated Hospitals

How did you choose your specialty?

It was easiest to identify what I didn't what to do first. Eventually I realized that continuity of care was important to me, narrowing things down to primary care specialties.  Ultimately I recognized that I wanted to care for an adult patient population, leading to my specialty choice.

What do you like MOST, and like LEAST, about your specialty?

  • Most - The breadth of problems that I encounter, continuity relationships with patients, the complexity of problems that need to be addressed.
  • Least - The importance of the coordination of care that we do is often under-recognized and under-appreciated from a financial perspective.

In your opinion, what attributes are important in anyone choosing this specialty?

Continuity of care experience with patients, ability to move seamlessly between inpatient and outpatient settings, the breadth of clinical work, the focus on patient education and counseling, coordination of care among multiple specialties

Special interests:

The interaction of psychiatry and general medicine, LGBT health, sleep medicine, and sexual health.
