How did you choose your specialty?
I liked most of my rotations in medical school. I really enjoyed the interaction and conversations I had with patients/families not only because they were interesting but because they provided important information in the diagnostic process. Once I did my pediatric rotation I knew I wanted to become a pediatrician. Working with kids and their families is great, is all about teamwork and the incredible resilience of children make our work so much more rewarding. The fast pace of infectious diseases, the incredible cases and challenges pose to us as consultants solidified my decision to pursue a career in this area. I have enjoyed every moment in medicine and I am looking forward to the challenges and rewards that will come in the future.
What do you like MOST, and like LEAST, about your specialty?
Most:
- Interaction with patients and families
- The resilience and innocence of the pediatric patient
- Investigating the conundrums post to us as ID physicians
Least:
- I really don’t have any major dislikes; I really enjoy my profession. If I had to pick one would be night call.
