Community Engagement

An organizational culture rich in diverse experiences helps us provide compassionate, cross-cultural care as we lead the effort to eliminate health inequities across the globe. Our faculty are at the forefront of excellence in diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and the Office of Equity and Inclusion offers resources to support this important work.

The Graduate Medical Education (GME) leadership are committed to creating an inclusive and equitable learning and working environment for our 1,300+ trainees in over 25 core residency programs and 80+ fellowship programs.

The School of Medicine boasts an impressive 31% underrepresented in medicine (URiM) medical student population. The Office of Multicultural Affairs and Office of Equity and Inclusion offers resources and programs to support the mentorship, learning, and experience for all learners.

The Office of Multicultural Affairs provides programs to support the development and matriculation of diverse learners, which include medical students, health professions students, residents and fellows, and K-12 students interested in health professions.

Racial and Social Justice News

Following a three-year, multicenter clinical trial, researchers at Emory University and Emory Transplant Center have found that it is safe to transplant a kidney from a deceased donor with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) into a recipient living with HIV in need of a new kidney. 

Emory received a Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award for the third consecutive year, “Insight Into Diversity” magazine recently announced. The School of Medicine also received a 2024 Health Professions HEED Award on its first attempt applying. 

The Emory Goizueta Brain Health Institute (GBHI) has prioritized involving African American volunteers in its research, working to create more inclusive tools for diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders.
