Mission Statement

To prepare residents that will emerge from their training programs with a core set of knowledge and skills in Educational Systems and Health Care Systems (i.e., Systems-Based Practice, Professionalism, & Practice-Based Learning and Improvement) needed to work effectively in clinical learning environments.

Importance of Learner Engagement - Based on the principles of adult learning theory, to help learners move from knowledge (e.g., obtained through online modules) to practice (hands-on problem solving), it is important to engage learners in active learning. "Active learning is generally defined as any instructional method that engages students in the learning process. In short, active learning requires students to do meaningful learning activities and think about what they are doing." (Prince, 2004, p. 223).
