First Year
In your intern year, you will be introduced to the large variety that constitutes the core knowledge of obstetrics and gynecology. You will participate in GYN rotations where you learn to evaluate patients with a wide range of gynecologic problems and are introduced to the surgical decision-making process. While on your OB rotations in your first year you will be expected to learn how to care for and manage uncomplicated obstetrical patients. While at Grady you will have the opportunity to collaborate with certified nurse midwives. During your ultrasound rotation you will have the opportunity to work with the radiology department to learn gynecology transvaginal ultrasound. You will also spend time at the Grady Perinatal center learning obstetrical ultrasound. You will begin learning outpatient medicine on your Ambulatory Care rotation and be able to go to Transgender and Colposcopy clinics.
Second Year
This year you will have the opportunity to finish rotating through all our subspecialties, including Maternal Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Pediatric Adolescent Gynecology, and Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. You will continue to hone your surgical skills in both gynecology and obstetrics and expand your medical decision-making while on obstetrics under the supervision of faculty. You will have time to work on your research this year.
Third Year
Residents will participate in increasingly complicated surgical procedures during your rotations on Gynecologic Oncology and FPMRS. Supervision of the Antepartum Unit and High-Risk Obstetric Clinic provides in-depth experience in management of high-risk obstetric patients. You have the opportunity to do an elective during this year. You will meet with residency leadership to discuss your ideas. This will also be a time to work on your research projects. You will present your final project during the spring of this year.
Fourth Year
Chief Residents will assign the surgical cases for the team and increase their skills in minimally invasive surgeries and complicated laparotomies. You are in charge of the service at each site and are expected to perform as a junior attending. This year you have an elective rotation where you will have the opportunity to individualize based upon your interests. You will prepare your FRRD manuscript and submit for publication
At Emory, education is paramount to training. You will be actively involved in teaching during every rotation throughout residency. You will also gain increasing autonomy with each year as you come up with and execute management plans for your patients with the guidance and supervision of the faculty.
