About the Emory Genetic Counseling Training Program
The Emory University School of Medicine Genetic Counseling Training Program was established in 2011 and is the only program of its kind in the state of GA. We have received FULL accreditation through the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling, most recently in 2021 for the maximum of 8-years.
Our graduates receive a Master of Medical Science (MMSc) degree in Human Genetics and Genetic Counseling and are qualified to sit for the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) certification examination.

Program Outcomes
Board Passage Rates:
- 86% (88/102) of Emory students have passed their boards on the first try overall
- 73% (24/33) of Emory students have passed their boards on the first try over the last 3 years (2021, 2022, 2023). The national first-time pass rate during this time was 75.8%.
- 99% (98/99) of Emory students have passed their boards by their 2nd try.
Attrition Rate:
- No students have left the program in the last 3 years.
- Since 2012, two students have left the program.
Job Placement Rate:
- For the past three graduating classes (2021, 2022, 2023), 92% of graduates have found a genetic counseling position within three months of graduation. Various job placements can be seen under the alumni information.
